"The Rock Dove"
My birds are "Rock Doves" aka White Homing Pigeons. When they are released at your event they will circle overhead to get their bearings then they will fly home from that location. I train my birds with 50 miles of our Loft in La Plata, Maryland. There is a lot of time invested in training my birds to fly home safely. Training starts at 6 weeks old. I teach them to use the trap door to get back into the loft then I let them fly out from the loft on their own for a while. When they are ready I start loading them up and dropping them 1/8 mile from home each week I move them out to 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1 Mile then 2 miles once I get out to 2 miles I start taking them 2 miles more each week till we get out to 50 Miles
We DO NOT release in the rain, Snow or High Winds and I release my birds 2 hours before sunset to give them plenty of time to return home before it starts to get dark.
